Engagement Rings Mean Commitment
In many different cultures around the world,
engagement rings are the sign of a commitment to marry.
Engagement rings come in all shapes and sizes, but the symbolism
remains the same. An engagement ring might be a large emerald
worth millions of dollars, or it could be a small silver band worth
a few dollars.
Whatever the cost or the substance, the
symbolism of the ring remains important. Engagement rings are
very important statements for the two people that are engaged, and
these engagement rings also have meaning for the people around who
view them.
Engagement rings are usually presented by a man
to the woman that he wants to marry as a sign of his commitment to
this union. The woman accepts an engagement ring as a sign of
accepting the commitment to this union.
Usually a man will present a ring to the woman
he wants to marry after dating or courting the woman for a period
of time. The average period before presenting a ring is
approximately a year although some people would present a ring
after different amounts of time.
Some men might present the engagement ring to
his intended bride at a private moment, but other men want to
present this special ring in front of many people.
Engagement Rings
Mean Love And Marriage
Most engagement rings are diamonds, and these
precious stones are supposed to last forever. Diamonds last
forever because they are one of the hardest substances
available.
These stones are symbolic of a love that is
supposed to last forever like the diamond. The diamonds in
these rings usually last longer than the bride, and many of these
diamond rings are passed on to children and
grandchildren.
Diamond rings as a sign of commitment and love
sometimes last longer than the commitment or the love
unfortunately.
After a woman receives her engagement ring, she
is supposed to wear it on her left hand as a sign that she has made
a commitment.
All of the members of a society that recognizes
these rings as a sign of commitment will immediately understand
that this woman is committed to be married. Most people get
married after their engagement although many people do change their
mind after accepting a ring.
The women who eventually get married after their
engagement continue to wear their rings with the wedding ring that
they receive during their wedding ceremony. The wedding ring
is also worn on the left hand as a sign that the commitment is
final and should last forever.
